Nancy Drummond Interviewed on Author Talks with Shaun Tabatt

Nancy DrummondChristian Focus 4 Kids author Nancy Drummond was recently interviewed on Author Talks with Shaun Tabatt about her book Nate Saint: Operation Auca. The interview is now available to stream or download via the links below:

Podcast: Play in new window | Download

About the Book:
On January 8, 1956, Nate Saint and some other missionaries flew to an area near an Auca village and landed on a strip of sand that they had named Palm Beach. This was Nate’s final flight for he and four other missionaries on the plane that day were martyred when tribesmen attacked them with spears a few days later.

Although this was Nate’s last flight – it wasn’t the end of his work. What he and the other martyred missionaries had done for the Kingdom of God convicted many to listen to God’s call to mission. And the work of evangelism continued to the Aucas too. Many in that village came to accept Christ including several of the men who had thrown their spears on that terrible day.

New From CF4K – May/June 2013

cf4k-mayfb-header

God is King by Catherine Mackenzie – The delightful artwork of Andy Robb provides a lively backdrop to this colourful illustration of the popular children’s song, “Who’s the King of the Jungle?” God is not only in control of the jungle, sea, animals, fish and the universe but is also in control of us human beings and we need to obey the Lord Jesus Christ as King.
My God is So Big by Catherine Mackenzie – Based on the chorus “My God is so big!” this is a great book which teaches children about the strength of God.
Glorifying God: Obedient Lives from the Bible by Carine MacKenzie – Find out about the ten commandments, God’s rules for our lives and about the only One who kept them as they were meant to be kept – Jesus Christ, God’s Son. He is the answer to the problem of sin, and to our need to get the better of it.
Witness Men: True Stories of God at Work in Papua, Indonesia by Rebecca Davis – In 1938, in the remote highlands of a mountainous island, explorers discovered thousands upon thousands of tribal people. Missionaries began to come, to bring the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Little did they know that many of the people of the tribes were waiting . . . waiting . . . for someone to come and help them out of the darkness of their old way of life. Witness Men consists of true missionary stories that took place throughout the highlands of Papua, Indonesia, from 1955 to 2010, when one of the tribes received their first New Testaments.
Fanny Crosby: The Blind Girl’s Song by Lucille Travis – If you’ve ever picked up a hymn book, the chances are that you’ve sung a song written by a blind girl… and not just any blind girl… Fanny Crosby. As a young child she knew nothing of the sighted world around her but that didn’t stop her interacting with nature, experiencing the thrill of God’s creation. She held her grandmother’s hand but she thought that was because Grandmother needed her help not the other way around.

“If you are looking for a great and encouraging biography that will spur you closer to Jesus then this is a great one for you and your kids.”
Reviewer: Angela Parsley (refreshmysoulblog.blogspot.com)
Rating: 5 Stars

“Throughout the book, Drummond weaves the story of God’s sovereignty in Nate’s life, and his willingness to sacrifice for others. This book will encourage young readers to think BIG, as they see how God used Nate, an ordinary boy who loved airplanes to change the lives of the Aucas by showing them the love of Christ.”
Reviewer: Claire Efird (saltshakeronline.net)
Rating: 5 Stars

“I would highly recommend this book for all young people. It would serve well as a home-school resource and would lend itself well for children to do a book report on it. I look forward to reading the other books in the Torch Bearers series and would be happy to keep the collection in my library for my children.”
Reviewer: Janelle Shillito (parsnipsandparsimony.com)
Rating: 5 Stars

“If your young reader has not read or heard about Nate Saint, this is a must read. Drummond does an excellent job of demonstrating Nate’s faith, his love and passion for his call in life, and compassion for people. Drummond does this all in easy to read and easy to follow story that clearly captures Nate’s passion… I definitely recommend this book and hope that it captures the heart and spirit of a new generation who follows their dreams risking it all for their first love. I give this book five out of five stars.”
Reviewer: Mike Tiede (vickitiede.com)

“I highly recommend reading this to your younger children as long as you prepare them for the scene where Nate and his friends give up their lives. Otherwise, older children, youth and adults will all be challenged to examine their hearts and determine whether they are willing to follow Christ completely.”
Reviewer: Beverly Terry (beverlylynnt.wordpress.com)
Rating: 5 Stars

“The story of Nate Saint is remarkable one for anyone interested in knowing what it looks like for a man to follow Christ, to use his gifts, and to love his fellow man regardless of what they can do for him. Nancy Drummond has written an accessible mini-biography of Saint’s life for children ages 7 and up to dive into.”

Input-output Getting to the Heart of personal prayer and Bible study by Jo Boddam-Whetham

Jo Boddam-Whetham has written this book to get you into another book – the Bible. She aims to challenge and equip you to develop a regular, individual time of reading God’s Word and praying. When you let God in his Word and his wisdom steer you in the right direction and help you to make the right choices. Reading God’s Word and praying to him are an essential part of receiving God’s input and ensuring the right output from your life.

To know that God loves you and that there is nothing more that you can do to make him love you more than he does already – that’s great. Reading the Bible and praying is not about making God love you more – it’s about feeding and watering your soul so that your love for God grows and spills over, impacting your life and your world.

About the Author:
Jo Boddam-Whetham lives near Carlisle with her husband Tudor and her three children. Before becoming a mum she worked as a youth and children’s worker in various churches, and learnt loads about the Bible on the Cornhill Training Course. Jo has always loved writing – particularly to help others learn more about Jesus from His Word.

You Asked: Your Questions. God’s Answers. by William Edgar

You-Asked-Banner

It can be difficult to ask questions, far less answer them. Perhaps you’ve felt that sometimes the questions you really want to ask just can’t be answered. They’re too difficult; too embarrassing; and perhaps you shouldn’t be asking them anyway. William Edgar takes a selection of twenty-four questions just like that – questions that are asked by young adults just like you – and gives a biblical, common sense, unpatronising answer to each. Edgar tackles issues such as ‘Where is God?’ ‘Can we trust the Bible?’ ‘What about love and sex?’ ‘Does God love gay people?’ ‘When will the world end?’ ‘Are there vampires?’ ‘Can I have real friends?’

William EdgarAbout the Author:
Dr William Edgar is Professor of Apologetics at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He is ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America and directs the gospel-jazz band Renewal. His wife, Barbara, and he, have two children and three grand children.

Praise for You Asked:

“Bill Edgar is a listening and deeply respectful Christian whose presence brings others (and especially young people) immediately into the circle of his life-long friends. I suspect that You Asked will add to that circle every teenager who reads it!”
Sinclair B. Ferguson ~ Senior Minister, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina

“Dr Edgar is a reliable and stimulating guide. I know at least one teenager who will be enjoying this. My daughter!”
David Robertson ~ Pastor of St Peter’s Free Church of Scotland, Dundee

“I know that here my students will find clear and compelling answers to the questions they are asking in language they understand. I am delighted it’s available and will be directing students to it for years to come.”
Bijan Mirtolooi ~ Youth Ministry Staff, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, New York City

My 1st Book About the Bible by Carine Mackenzie

My 1st Book About the Bible by Carine Mackenzie

Finding age appropriate resources to introduce key biblical and theological concepts to your little ones can be quite challenging. We understand how important it is to help children begin developing a solid worldview at a young age and that’s precisely why Christian Focus 4 Kids continues to grow the My First Book series.

The My First Book series is a catechism-like resource designed to help you teach your children about God, the Bible, and the Church. Below is a sample reading from My 1st Book About the Bible:

2. The Word of God lasts forever

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Mark 13:31

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8

The clothes you have today will one day wear out. Your toys will break and be thrown away. The flowers in the garden wither and die. God tells us that even the world we live in, will be burned up and come to an end. But God’s Word will never be destroyed. It will last forever.

We’re excited to introduce Carine Mackenzie’s latest contribution to this series titled My 1st Book About the Bible. Over the course of twenty-five brief lessons, this book explores the following questions:

  • What is the Word of God?
  • What does the Word of God do?
  • What is the Word of God like?

Measuring approximately 4″ by 6″ the books in the My 1st Book series are just the right size for little hands. If you have little ones ages 4-6, we recommend that you read these books along with your children. If your children are ages 6-11, they will be able to read these books on their own. In either case, we pray that the My 1st Book series becomes a starting point for many great discussions in your home.

About the Author:
Carine Mackenzie’s talent for retelling Bible stories has meant that children from all over the world have been given the opportunity to discover Jesus Christ for themselves. The first title written in the kitchen with the assistance of a basin of water has inspired the production of many other books. Carine now has more than 150 different titles in print.
